**Lidl Cyprus Launches 9th Year of “Food Academy for Children” Program**
Lidl Cyprus has announced the continuation of its educational initiative, the “Food Academy for Children at the Lidl Food Academy,” for the academic year 2026-2027. This program, which is now in its ninth consecutive year, is conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth and aims to instill balanced nutrition habits among students.
Since its inception in 2018, the program has successfully engaged over 6,800 children from 260 schools across Cyprus. It is designed for students entering the 1st year of High School and is integrated into the Health Education curriculum. The initiative emphasizes the importance of healthy eating and environmental awareness, equipping young participants with essential knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
The program takes place at the Lidl Food Academy located in the heart of Nicosia, where students participate in hands-on workshops led by qualified chefs and supported by registered Clinical Dietitians and Nutritionists. These workshops provide students with practical cooking skills while educating them about the benefits of a balanced Mediterranean diet.
In addition to cooking techniques, participants learn about the sustainability of food, the origin of raw materials, and strategies for reducing food waste. This holistic approach not only enhances their culinary abilities but also fosters a deeper understanding of the impact of food choices on health and the environment.
The experiential workshops are offered free of charge during school hours, making them accessible to a wide range of students. The coordination of the program and the management of school applications are overseen by the Health Education Inspection (Home Economics) of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, ensuring that the initiative aligns with educational standards and objectives.
Lidl Cyprus’s commitment to this program reflects its dedication to empowering the younger generation. By providing children with the tools they need to adopt healthier lifestyles, Lidl aims to inspire a new wave of environmentally conscious individuals who can actively contribute to a sustainable future.
As the new school year begins, Lidl Cyprus and the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth continue to strengthen their partnership, focusing on the importance of nutrition education and the role it plays in shaping the lives of young people in Cyprus. The “Food Academy for Children” program stands as a testament to this collaborative effort, promoting not only personal health but also a collective responsibility towards the environment.
