**Ford Issues Safety Recall for Ranger Double-Cab Vehicles in South Africa**
South Africa's National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a significant safety recall involving 2,275 Ford Ranger Double-Cab vehicles from the 2026-2027 model year. The recall stems from concerns regarding the deployment of side curtain airbags, which may interact with the B-pillar trim in a way that could cause the trim to detach and become a projectile during an accident. This defect poses an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
The NCC reported that the affected vehicles were sold nationwide through Ford franchised dealers between May 22, 2026, and June 23, 2026. Additionally, these vehicles were exported to neighboring countries, including Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
Acting Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu emphasized the importance of addressing this recall promptly. "This recall affects a safety-critical component of a significant number of vehicles. Owners or users of these vehicles should contact the supplier without delay," he stated. The commission is urging all affected vehicle owners to bring their vehicles to the nearest authorized Ford dealership for inspection and necessary repairs. Importantly, these remedial services will be provided at no cost to consumers.
The NCC has been proactive in monitoring vehicle safety recalls, ensuring that all affected vehicles in South Africa are addressed. This latest recall follows a series of other safety announcements, including a recall of 314 Nissan Qashqai vehicles due to a potential fuel pipe defect that could result in fuel leaks. The commission also previously announced the recall of 507 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vehicles and 124 Lexus LX600 models, which were found to have manufacturing debris in the engine that could lead to main bearing failure, potentially causing engine stalls while driving.
