According to reports, Chalong, who previously served as a Nonthaburi MP, shot Thongchai in the neck, resulting in the latter's death shortly after being transported to a hospital. In addition to Thongchai, his driver was also injured, sustaining gunshot wounds to the arm and hand.
Following the shooting, Chalong made a startling decision to confess the act during a live stream on YouTube. He contacted political commentator Anchalee Paireerak, who was hosting a program at the time. Viewers witnessed Anchalee's shocked reaction as she engaged with Chalong, asking if Thongchai had died and urging him to wait for the police. The exchange has since gone viral, highlighting the bizarre nature of the confession.
Chalong was subsequently arrested but was permitted to hold a press conference at a police station shortly thereafter. During the press conference, he attempted to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting while smoking a cigarette. He described Thongchai as a "good friend" but acknowledged that there had been a personal dispute between them.
Chalong recounted the events leading up to the shooting, stating that he had approached Thongchai to discuss their issues. However, he claimed that when Thongchai expressed a desire not to talk and pushed him away, the situation escalated. Chalong alleged that he did not intend to shoot Thongchai but felt compelled to fire when Thongchai's driver brandished a firearm.

This shooting follows closely on the heels of a tragic mass shooting in which a 14-year-old boy killed seven people before taking his own life.
