The distribution of the kits has been successfully completed in the Paphos and Famagusta districts, with efforts now gradually progressing in other areas. The ministry anticipates that the nationwide rollout will be finalized by mid-September. Despite the introduction of various measures to encourage water conservation, the ministry has noted that water usage this year remains higher compared to the same period last year. This increase underscores the urgency of enhancing water-saving initiatives and highlights the need for the public to adopt more responsible water-use practices.
Households that have received the free kits, which include tap aerators and shower flow restrictors, are encouraged to install these devices promptly. The ministry emphasizes that these simple tools can lead to a reduction in water consumption by up to 30 percent without compromising user comfort. For those who have not received the free equipment, similar water-saving fittings are available for purchase at a low cost, enabling broader participation in the conservation efforts.
To facilitate engagement with the campaign, residents can access the “Notification for Installation of Aerators” online service through the government’s official portal, gov.cy. This platform provides information about the campaign, offers practical advice on reducing water consumption, and allows users to declare that they have received and installed the equipment. The declaration process is free and will assist authorities in monitoring the campaign's progress and evaluating its effectiveness.
The ministry has reiterated that water conservation extends beyond the installation of equipment; it also relies heavily on daily habits. Citizens are urged to avoid water waste, promptly repair leaks, and utilize water responsibly.
