**Germany Indicts Man Arrested at Larnaca Airport for Alleged Hamas Involvement**
The German federal prosecutor’s office announced on Friday the indictment of a Lebanese national, Kamel M., who was arrested at Larnaca airport in Cyprus in March 2026. He is accused of being part of a network allegedly supplying arms to Hamas, the Palestinian militant organization.
Kamel M. is one of seven individuals facing charges, which include membership in a foreign terrorist organization and preparing serious acts of violence that threaten state security. The group comprises individuals of various nationalities, including Lebanese, Danish, German, and Bulgarian citizens.
According to the indictment, all accused individuals are linked to Hamas, specifically its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. Prosecutors allege that this group established an arms depot in Europe some time prior to the arrests. The indictment details that since at least July 2025, the group had been plotting an attack targeting Israeli representatives, Jewish individuals, or those who support pro-Israeli positions in Austria or Germany.
The planned attack was reportedly scheduled for early October 2025, coinciding with the second anniversary of Hamas's invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023. Prosecutors assert that the accused were responsible for procuring weapons and ammunition in preparation for this alleged assault.
German authorities revealed that by the time the first arrests were made in Berlin in October 2025, the group had successfully acquired a significant cache of weaponry, including a fully functional automatic rifle, 13 operational pistols, and over 700 rounds of ammunition.
Kamel M. was detained by Cypriot authorities upon his arrival from Lebanon on March 6, 2026, following a European arrest warrant issued the previous month. He was extradited to Germany on March 19, where he was placed in provisional detention by an investigating judge at the federal court the following day.
The case has drawn attention due to its implications for international security and the ongoing concerns regarding terrorism in Europe. The indictment highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in monitoring and preventing the activities of terrorist organizations operating across borders.
