**Germany Logs Record Rise in UFO Sightings, Reports CENAP**
Germany has recently experienced a notable increase in reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), according to the Central Research Network for Extraordinary Celestial Phenomena (CENAP), the country's largest private organization dedicated to the reporting and investigation of such phenomena. This surge in sightings coincides with the Pentagon's ongoing release of declassified documents related to unidentified aerial phenomena, which many believe may be linked to extraterrestrial activity.
Hansjuergen Koehler, the director of CENAP, reported that the organization has never received as many reports of unidentified anomalous phenomena, the official term for UFOs, as it does currently. In an interview with Euronews, Koehler stated that CENAP receives between three to six reports each day. As of August 2026, the organization had investigated approximately 14,000 sighting reports, although Koehler did not specify the timeframe for this data.
While Koehler acknowledged the possibility of extraterrestrial life, he expressed skepticism about the majority of the reported sightings. He noted that many of these incidents are often attributed to more mundane explanations, such as aircraft, rocket stages, satellites, meteors, planets, balloons, or even event lasers that can be visible from several kilometers away. Some reports remain unresolved due to a lack of crucial information, such as high-resolution videos that could help in investigations.
Koehler emphasized that just because a sighting remains unexplained does not necessarily imply extraterrestrial origins. He suggested that individuals interested in identifying celestial bodies might benefit from using free astronomy applications that allow users to point their smartphones at the sky for identification purposes.
The recent increase in UFO sightings in Germany has occurred against a backdrop of heightened interest in extraterrestrial phenomena, particularly following the Pentagon's release of previously classified materials regarding alleged alien sightings. This initiative gained traction after former President Barack Obama mentioned in a podcast that aliens were "real," which prompted former President Donald Trump to order the declassification of related files. The Pentagon's disclosure effort began in May with the release of around 160 documents, followed by additional batches of footage and witness testimonies.
The Pentagon's latest release, which occurred on a recent Friday, included 41 files comprising over a dozen videos, three images, and approximately 20 PDF documents detailing sightings from various locations, including the Middle East and the Pacific Ocean. The records stem from various U.S. government agencies, including the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, State Department, and the Executive Office of the President, with dates ranging from 1953 to the present.
Among the released materials is grainy footage of unidentified objects, including orbs and lights captured by military sensors and cameras. Notably, six videos document a September 2021 encounter involving Special Operations forces aboard an AC-130J gunship over the Gulf of Oman. Another video, recorded by a "US Government Special Agent" in the western United States this year, displays two slow-moving "black-hot" areas in infrared imagery. Additionally, the batch includes eight FBI 302 witness-interview forms accompanied by artist renderings of reported objects.
Despite the growing volume of reports and materials, U.S. officials maintain that there is no confirmed evidence of extraterrestrial life, alien technology, or any government cover-ups. Many of the sightings have been attributed to earthly explanations, such as infrared distortions, aircraft heat signatures, or classified test flights. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced that more files would be released "on a rolling basis," indicating that the investigation into these phenomena is ongoing.
As interest in UFOs and potential extraterrestrial life continues to rise, both in Germany and globally, organizations like CENAP are at the forefront of investigating these reports. While the fascination with the unknown persists, experts like Koehler urge caution and critical thinking when interpreting the evidence surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena.
