**Ghana Reappoints Carlos Queiroz as Head Coach of Black Stars**
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially reappointed Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the Black Stars, just two months after he stepped down from the position. The announcement was made on September 3, 2026, and marks a new chapter for the team as they prepare for upcoming international matches.
Queiroz, a 73-year-old Portuguese coach, will begin his new mandate with the Black Stars during the upcoming international window, which is scheduled from September 21 to October 6. During this period, Ghana will compete in home and away matches against Ivory Coast as part of the qualifying rounds for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The GFA expressed confidence in Queiroz's capabilities, citing his extensive international experience and technical expertise. In a statement, the association noted, “The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise, and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter.”
Queiroz's return comes after a challenging period for the Black Stars. He initially took over the coaching role shortly before the FIFA World Cup, which saw Ghana exit in the round of 32. His appointment was made under tight time constraints, as he had only a couple of months to prepare the team for the prestigious tournament. The previous head coach, Otto Addo, parted ways with the team following disappointing friendly defeats against Austria and Germany in March, leaving the Black Stars without a coach just 72 days before the World Cup.
The experienced coach has a rich history in international football, having previously led teams such as Portugal, Iran, Colombia, and Egypt. Queiroz guided Portugal to the round of 16 in the 2010 World Cup and has managed Iran in the last three editions of the tournament, achieving three wins in 13 matches. His coaching career also includes stints with Japan, South Africa, and an earlier tenure with Portugal in the early 1990s.
