A 10-year-old girl sustained injuries during the Apoel-AEL football match held at the GSP stadium on Sunday when she was struck on the head by a battery thrown from the stands. The incident occurred while the girl was attending the match with her father.
According to police reports, the girl was promptly taken to Nicosia General Hospital for medical attention, where she received first aid. Fortunately, she was later discharged and is expected to recover.
In the aftermath of the incident, law enforcement officials arrested an individual believed to be connected to the act of throwing the battery. This arrest was made following testimonies gathered by the police.
The match was marred by further violence, as a member of the police riot squad was injured during an altercation with a group of AEL supporters. The officer was subsequently taken to Apollonion Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Prior to the match, disturbances were reported involving Apoel supporters. During a march towards the stadium, some fans began throwing objects towards AEL supporters who were gathered in the stadium’s northern car park. Police intervened to restore order and ensure the safety of all attendees.
