In a recorded message on healthcare, Christodoulides said the new projects come on top of €145 million in hospital infrastructure works already announced and under way, including the construction of a new hospital in Polis Chrysochous. The government this week approved the additional €61.7 million package, which includes: -the second and third phases of the Athalassa Mental Health Centre;-a new Infectious Diseases Unit at Nicosia General Hospital;-upgrades to the Intensive Care Unit and Internal Medicine Department at Larnaca General Hospital, along with new facilities for cardiology –and pulmonology clinics; and-major upgrading and maintenance works at Troodos Hospital. “Projects in every district. Infrastructure for every citizen, wherever they may be,” the president said, adding that behind every project is a patient, a family and a healthcare professional. Christodoulides said the government’s policy aims to improve the quality of care, strengthen public safety and provide modern working conditions for hospital staff. He said the investments had been made possible by the government’s economic policy, which allowed the benefits of growth to be returned to society through projects in healthcare, education, social policy and housing.
