She was rescued alongside the 76-year-old businessman’s partner, following a difficult rescue operation mounted by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in the Agioi Anargyroi area, in particularly adverse weather conditions. His boat was swept onto the rocks by the waves. The 76-year-old ended up in the sea and ultimately lost his life. Helicopters and rescuers were deployed to locate and rescue those in the water. In total, five people were rescued in the operation. “I’m alive…” Philenews contacted Angela Mavropoulou, who, visibly shaken, did not wish to go into the dramatic details of what she had experienced. In just a few words, but clearly emotional, she described the situation facing her and her family. “I’m alive. We’ve been through a lot, and right now the whole family wants privacy,” she said. Asked whether she was in good health and whether she had sustained any injuries, she said she was fine and did not wish to say anything further. Daughter’s police statement sheds light on final moments Angela Mavropoulou, who was also on board the boat that was swept onto the rocks and broke apart, was discharged from Famagusta General Hospital on Saturday evening. Mavropoulos’s partner was discharged the following day. According to information received, Mavropoulos’s daughter has already given a statement to police describing what happened. The victim’s partner, who was also rescued, is expected, barring anything unforeseen, to give her own statement to police today. “No one can know exactly what happened” A close friend of Dimi Mavropoulos, who had known him for many years through both friendship and business, was notably reserved about the circumstances of the tragedy. Speaking to philenews, the friend said no one can know exactly what happened on the boat or what Mavropoulos tried to do. It was, the friend said, simply bad luck. Funeral announcement awaited Regarding funeral arrangements and the final farewell to Mavropoulos, reports suggest the funeral may take place on Thursday. However, the family is not yet in a position to make an official announcement.
