**Independent Investigators in ‘Mafia State’ Case to Start Work Immediately**
The five-member independent investigative team appointed by the Council of Ministers in Cyprus is set to commence its investigation into the findings related to the "Mafia State" case without delay. Government sources confirmed on Friday evening that the team will begin its work immediately, following the conclusions drawn by the Independent Authority Against Corruption.
The investigative team, led by law professor Vasilios Skouris, includes members Christos Mylonopoulos, Sotiris Liasidis, Nikolas Koursaris, and Dimitris Tsolakidis. As part of their mandate, the team will explore allegations of corruption and misconduct that have raised significant public concern in recent months.
To facilitate the investigation, potential locations for housing the team have already been identified. Arrangements are also being made to provide necessary office staff and equipment to support their work. Notably, Professor Skouris has indicated that he will not accept any remuneration for his role in the investigation, a gesture that underscores the independent nature of the inquiry.
The government has outlined that the appointment of the investigative team will last for a period of up to six months. However, this duration may be extended if a formal request is submitted to the Council of Ministers, accompanied by a written and reasoned justification for the extension.
The establishment of this independent team follows increasing public scrutiny and demands for accountability regarding the alleged corruption linked to the "Mafia State" case. The investigation aims to restore public trust and ensure transparency in governance.
As the team prepares to begin its work, many citizens and stakeholders are looking forward to the outcomes of this inquiry, hoping it will lead to meaningful reforms and a clearer understanding of the issues at hand.
