**Indian Aid Reaches Quake-Hit Venezuela**
In response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week, an Indian disaster relief team has arrived in the country to provide much-needed assistance. The team has established a field hospital at the International La Rinconada Racetrack in Caracas, as part of a coordinated relief effort following the disaster that has claimed at least 1,450 lives.
The Indian Embassy in Venezuela confirmed the operationalization of the medical facility, which aims to support local health services in the aftermath of the earthquakes. The field hospital is equipped to handle a significant number of patients, reflecting India's commitment to humanitarian aid in times of crisis.
To facilitate this relief operation, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft were deployed, transporting a total of 66 tons of aid, which includes the field hospital and over 35 tons of essential relief supplies. This mission, dubbed Operation Amistad, underscores India's proactive role in international disaster response.
Among the supplies delivered are two BHISHM cubes, advanced modular field hospital and trauma care systems designed for rapid deployment in disaster situations. These state-of-the-art units can treat up to 200 patients and have previously been utilized in various international crises, including in Ukraine and Jamaica.
The Indian Air Force reported that the aircraft undertook a remarkable journey, flying for 23 hours and covering over 14,000 kilometers from New Delhi to Caracas. This long-distance operation highlights India's growing capabilities as a reliable humanitarian partner on the global stage.
In a show of solidarity, the Venezuelan Vice Health Minister and the Head of Government of the Capital District visited the Indian field hospital, as noted in a tweet from Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal. Their visit signifies the importance of international cooperation in addressing the urgent needs of those affected by the earthquakes.
