Last year, it put to death at least 2,159 people, according to Amnesty International. The human rights group said that was the highest figure on record since 1981 and included 45 executions of suspected dissidents on national security-related charges.Related topicsIranCapital punishmentMore on this storyIran killed her teenage daughter - now she is facing up to the regimePublished6 days agoSome Iranians fear the regime is now more entrenched - and ready for revengePublished4 MayExecutions in Iran estimated to have doubled in 2025, report saysPublished28 December 2025
