**Israeli Air Strike in Gaza City Claims Lives of Family of Six**
An Israeli air strike in Gaza City has resulted in the deaths of six members of a single family, according to local medical sources. The incident occurred in the al-Sabra neighborhood, where video footage captured the family's apartment engulfed in flames overnight.
The victims have been identified as Firas al-Masri, his wife Salsabeel, and their four children: Faryal, Salma, Amira, and Naim. A relative of Firas al-Masri reported that the entire family perished in the attack.
In response to the incident, the Israeli military stated that the air strike targeted a Hamas operative. They indicated that they are currently investigating the outcomes of this operation.
The ongoing conflict has seen a significant toll on civilian life in Gaza. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, at least 1,168 Palestinians have died in Israeli attacks since a ceasefire was established between Israel and Hamas in October 2023. During this same period, four Israeli soldiers have reportedly been killed in attacks originating from Gaza.
The United Nations' human rights office has condemned the recent escalation of Israeli military actions in Gaza. Spokesman Thameen Al-Kheetan highlighted that between July 13 and July 20, at least 57 Palestinians, including six children and eight women, lost their lives due to strikes on residential buildings and other densely populated areas. Al-Kheetan noted that many of these casualties occurred far from the so-called Yellow Line, which delineates territory controlled by Israeli forces.
Nine months after the ceasefire announcement, Al-Kheetan remarked that "nowhere is safe for Palestinians in Gaza," expressing concern over the high number of civilian casualties. He warned that such incidents raise serious questions regarding potential violations of international humanitarian law and the possibility of war crimes.
The Israeli military has intensified its operations in Gaza, targeting members of Palestinian armed groups believed to be involved in the Hamas-led attack on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023. This attack resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the abduction of 251 individuals. In retaliation, Israel has launched a widespread military campaign in Gaza, with the health ministry reporting over 73,290 fatalities in the territory since the conflict escalated.
The situation in Gaza continues to evolve, drawing international attention and concern as the humanitarian crisis deepens amid ongoing hostilities.
