In a series of Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, two individuals were reported killed, and several others were injured, including in an attack on a medical facility. The violence comes amid ongoing tensions and a declared ceasefire that has been increasingly fragile.
The most significant incident occurred at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital complex in Deir el-Balah, where an Israeli drone strike targeted a tent utilized as a medical supply warehouse. According to the hospital's director, this attack resulted in injuries to three individuals. The Israeli military confirmed that it had struck a target within the hospital compound, asserting, without providing evidence, that the strike was aimed at a Hamas commander.
In a separate incident in Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, another drone strike targeted a bicycle, leading to at least one fatality and injuring two others. The casualties were subsequently transported to al-Quds Field Hospital for treatment.
Earlier in the day, gunfire from Israeli forces resulted in the death of one person in the village of al-Musaddar, located east of Deir el-Balah. Additionally, an Israeli quadcopter reportedly dropped an explosive device near Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, although details on any resulting injuries or damage were not immediately available.
The recent escalation in Israeli military actions has raised concerns, especially given the context of a ceasefire that has been in place since October 2023. Reports from Gaza’s Health Ministry indicate that over the past 48 hours, 10 bodies have been received, including nine newly killed individuals and one recovered from under rubble. The ministry also reported that 18 people were wounded during this period, with many others believed to be trapped beneath collapsed buildings or inaccessible areas due to ongoing hostilities.
Since the ceasefire's implementation, the Health Ministry has documented a staggering total of 1,313 Palestinian fatalities attributed to Israeli attacks. Furthermore, the Palestinian Centre for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons has indicated that between 4,000 and 5,000 Palestinians remain unaccounted for and are presumed to be under rubble. Their analysis suggests that between 2,500 and 3,000 individuals may have experienced forced disappearance during the ongoing conflict, with a significant majority of the cases examined involving males.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with reports indicating that more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured since the onset of the conflict in October 2023. The majority of those affected are women and children, underscoring the severe impact of the violence on civilian populations.
As the situation evolves, international observers and humanitarian organizations are calling for increased attention to the plight of those affected by the ongoing conflict and for measures to ensure the protection of civilians and medical facilities in Gaza.
