**Israeli Forces Demolish Palestinian Village, Displacing 180 Residents**
Israeli forces have carried out a demolition operation in the Palestinian village of Jinba, located in the occupied West Bank, resulting in the displacement of approximately 180 residents, including 85 children. The operation took place on Wednesday, where Israeli military and police, accompanied by heavy machinery, destroyed 24 homes along with agricultural structures, solar panels, and water tanks.
The demolition is part of a series of large-scale actions in the Masafer Yatta region, with this being the third such incident in just three weeks. Following the demolitions, families were seen sifting through the rubble, attempting to salvage their belongings. One resident recounted the emotional moment when children returned to find their homes destroyed, stating, “When they came back, they said, ‘Where is our house?’ Then the crying and screaming started.”
The resident expressed deep sorrow for the impact on the younger generation, particularly noting the plight of his two-month-old granddaughter who is now without shelter. “The house itself does not break me. I built it. They demolish it. And we rebuild it,” he said, highlighting the resilience of the community despite the ongoing challenges.
Human rights organization B’Tselem has condemned the demolitions, describing them as part of a systematic effort to dismantle Palestinian communities in the area. The group characterized the actions as “ethnic cleansing in broad daylight,” asserting that the international community is aware of the situation yet continues to allow it to persist. B’Tselem has documented similar destruction of homes and infrastructure throughout Masafer Yatta in recent weeks.
Jinba is situated within Firing Zone 918, an area designated by Israel for military training since the 1980s. In a ruling last year, Israel’s High Court determined that residents had not sufficiently proven their permanent residency prior to the establishment of the firing zone, thereby facilitating the demolitions.
In addition to the demolitions in Jinba, reports indicate that Israeli military bulldozers have also uprooted Palestinian olive trees in other parts of the West Bank, just days before the annual harvest. A farmer from Deir Nizam, near Ramallah, lamented the destruction of his trees, stating, “They left us with nothing.”
The situation has drawn international attention, with Jordan’s King Abdullah II addressing the UN General Assembly and accusing Israel of implementing a broader policy of displacement in the West Bank. He stated, “What is unfolding across the West Bank is not a series of isolated acts. There is a name for that: forced displacement. And that is a war crime.”
In response to the criticisms, Israel has dismissed allegations regarding its actions and has initiated a campaign to counter claims made by the UN and various critics, asserting that they are spreading misinformation about the country. However, reports from the region suggest that Palestinian communities are increasingly being pressured to leave their homes, facing ongoing demolitions and land confiscations.
