**Israeli Strike on Police Post in North Gaza Claims Seven Lives**
An Israeli airstrike targeting a police post operated by Hamas in northern Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals, including a senior police officer, according to officials from both health and police sectors. The incident occurred near a bustling market in the Jabalia area, where witnesses reported that an Israeli drone launched four missiles at the police facility.
The Hamas-run interior ministry identified the deceased as Col. Mohammed Marwan Salem, the head of the local police station, along with several other officers. The ministry condemned the strike, labeling it a "massacre" and highlighting the ongoing violence in the region.
An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed the airstrike, stating that the operation was aimed at "terrorists" in the area. This strike is part of a broader pattern of Israeli military actions in Gaza, which have continued despite a ceasefire agreement established with Hamas in October 2023.
In addition to the fatalities in Jabalia, reports indicate that two more individuals were killed by Israeli fire in southern Gaza on the same day. An airstrike in the Khan Younis area resulted in one man's death and left three others injured, according to medical sources. Furthermore, a 10-year-old boy named Muataz Abu Shaar was reportedly killed by Israeli gunfire in Rafah, although the Israeli military has not yet commented on this particular incident.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has seen both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire, which was put in place following a significant escalation in hostilities. Since the ceasefire began, Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry claims that over 1,110 individuals have been killed due to Israeli actions, while the Israeli military reports that four of its soldiers have died as a result of Palestinian attacks.
The current wave of violence can be traced back to the Hamas-led assault on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli fatalities and the abduction of 251 individuals. In response, Israel initiated a military campaign in Gaza, leading to a staggering death toll of over 73,230 individuals, as reported by health officials in the territory.
The situation remains tense, with both sides engaged in a cycle of retaliatory strikes and accusations, further complicating efforts for peace and stability in the region.
