**Israeli Tourist Drowns While Swimming Off Limassol Coast**
A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a 34-year-old Israeli tourist drowned while swimming off the coast of Limassol, Cyprus. According to police reports, authorities were alerted around 3:30 PM regarding an unconscious man at a local beach.
Emergency services, including police officers and an ambulance, were dispatched to the scene promptly. Upon arrival, they recovered the man from the water and transported him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed his death shortly after arrival.
Reports from Israeli media indicate that the victim, a resident of Jerusalem, was swimming with his family when he suddenly disappeared from view. Concerned relatives initiated a search for him, but it was not until approximately two hours later that a paraglider flying overhead spotted a body floating in the water and notified emergency services.
Rescue teams managed to retrieve the man from the sea, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The circumstances surrounding the drowning are currently under investigation by local authorities.
In response to the incident, ZAKA, an Israeli volunteer emergency organization, has announced that it is collaborating with the Israeli foreign ministry and Cypriot authorities to assist the victim's family during this difficult time. They are also working to facilitate the necessary procedures for repatriating his body to Israel for burial.
Chaim Weingarten, the deputy operations director of ZAKA, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as “a great tragedy.” The loss of life has resonated within both the local community and the victim's family, highlighting the risks associated with swimming in unfamiliar waters.
