**Japan Embassy to Screen Cannes-Selected Film *Kokuho* in Nicosia**
The Embassy of Japan in Cyprus, in collaboration with the Friends of Cinema Society, is set to host a screening of the acclaimed Japanese film *Kokuho* (国宝, meaning "National Treasure") at the Pantheon Theatre in Nicosia. The event will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026, starting at 19:30.
*Kokuho*, directed by Sang-il Lee, was featured as an Official Selection in the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, highlighting its international recognition and artistic merit. The film tells the poignant story of Kikuo, a 15-year-old boy living in Nagasaki in 1964. Following the death of his father, who was involved with the yakuza, Kikuo is taken in by a distinguished kabuki actor.
