**Jewellery Shop Owner Injured in Attempted Armed Robbery in Larnaca**
A 73-year-old jewellery shop owner sustained injuries during an attempted armed robbery in central Larnaca on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 9 am, prompting a swift response from local police.
According to George Charalambous, head of the Larnaca police criminal investigation unit, the suspect entered the jewellery store wearing a distinctive outfit that included a black motorcycle helmet, a long-sleeved black shirt, and a vest typically worn by food delivery personnel. This disguise may have been intended to conceal the individual’s identity and blend in with the surrounding environment.
The situation escalated quickly when the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and threatened the shop owner. In the ensuing struggle, the suspect struck the owner on the head, resulting in an injury that required medical attention and stitches. Despite the violent confrontation, the owner demonstrated remarkable resilience and managed to force the assailant out of the shop.
Following the altercation, the suspect fled the scene, escaping in a vehicle that was reportedly waiting outside the store. Investigators believe that a second individual was involved, acting as the getaway driver. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend both suspects.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward, as they work to gather evidence and piece together the events surrounding the attempted robbery. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the area, prompting discussions about security measures for local businesses.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on alert, hoping for a swift resolution to the case and the safe recovery of the injured shop owner.
