**Kalashnikov Signs Agreement to Supply Small Arms to India**
Russian weapons manufacturer Kalashnikov has entered into a new agreement to supply small arms to partners in India, marking a significant development in defense collaboration between the two nations. The deal was formalized during the India Homeland Security Expo, an event dedicated to showcasing equipment and technologies for national and public safety.
Maxim Karavaev, the business development director for Kalashnikov in India, announced that the agreement primarily focuses on the supply of anti-drone cartridges. This includes a range of products designed to enhance India’s capabilities in countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which have become increasingly prevalent in various security scenarios worldwide.
The pact outlines that Kalashnikov will produce and deliver several types of small arms by the end of this year. Among the items expected to be supplied are anti-drone shotguns, specialized anti-drone cartridges in various calibers, and pistols tailored for this purpose. Karavaev emphasized the growing global demand for anti-drone protection, noting that Kalashnikov's products in this sector are both effective and proven.
The India Homeland Security Expo, which concluded recently, prominently featured unmanned aerial systems, underscoring the rising importance of drone technology in security operations. Notable exhibits included the compact Karakurt and Goliath copter-type UAVs, as well as the SKAT 350 M high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft, referred to as GARUDA in India. Additionally, Kalashnikov showcased two 12-gauge anti-UAV guns, the Saiga and the MP-155, specifically designed to combat first-person view (FPV) drones.
This latest agreement builds on Kalashnikov's existing partnerships within India. The company is already collaborating with Indian entities through Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), a joint venture established by Rosoboronexport, the Kalashnikov Concern, and two state-owned Indian firms: Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited and Munitions India Limited. This partnership has led to the local production of AK-203 assault rifles, which began in 2023 under the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative.
The AK-203 rifles are being manufactured using Russian technology and certified equipment in Korda, a town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The agreement aims to produce a total of 600,000 rifles over a span of ten years, further solidifying the defense ties between India and Russia.
