The Department of Forests and the Fire Service are on alert after a fire broke out at the Kalo Chorio firing range following National Guard training live-fire exercises. Strong firefighting forces have rushed to the scene and are working to put out the fire. Larnaca Police officers are also at the scene. There are at least two active fire fronts in the area burning low vegetation. Firefighting forces have been reinforced with four aircraft, which have begun operating, while the Department of Forests is also assisting with six vehicles. According to the Fire Service Spokesperson, the fire is spreading beyond the firing range. Firefighting crews are struggling to enter the firing range and reach the source of the fire, as the possible presence of unexploded ordnance and the particular conditions in the area make the operation extremely dangerous.
