**Kitchen Fire Causes Extensive Damage to Nicosia Home**
Nicosia, Cyprus – A fire broke out in a two-storey house in the Nicosia district on Saturday night, resulting in significant damage to the kitchen and the interior of the home. The fire service reported that the blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.
According to fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis, the fire primarily affected the kitchen area, where equipment was severely damaged. Additionally, smoke from the fire permeated throughout the house, leading to damage to the paintwork in various rooms. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries associated with the incident.
In a separate occurrence on the same day, a fire ignited in a truck used for transporting recyclable materials at approximately 11:29 AM. This fire also appears to have been triggered by an electrical or mechanical fault, resulting in damage to the engine compartment and the interior of the vehicle.
The fire service has been particularly active, responding to a total of 44 incidents over the past 24 hours. This included 18 fires, 19 special service calls, and seven false alarms. Over the past week, the service has handled a total of 265 incidents, which encompassed 55 urban fires, 32 countryside fires, five road collisions, 26 rescue operations, 109 public assistance calls, and 38 false alarms.
The recent incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the fire service in managing various emergencies across the region. Authorities continue to urge residents to take precautions to prevent electrical faults and other potential hazards in their homes and vehicles.
