The Kremlin reiterated on Monday that Russia's position regarding the conditions for a peace deal in Ukraine has remained unchanged since 2024. This statement follows comments made by President Vladimir Putin during a recent television interview, where he emphasized the necessity for Ukrainian forces to withdraw from four regions that Moscow claims as its own and for Ukraine to publicly abandon its aspirations to join NATO.
Putin's remarks come amid ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, which have persisted for over four years. In the interview, he indicated that Russia intends to continue its military objectives aimed at fully controlling the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. These regions have been the focal point of conflict, with Russia asserting sovereignty over them, a claim that Ukraine categorically rejects, labeling it an illegal land grab.
