The ranking placed Larnaca behind only Antalya in Turkey and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, in a list of the ten best autumn 2026 destinations that assessed sunshine, temperatures, rainfall and accommodation costs. Quotezone said visitors to Larnaca could enjoy beach days into autumn, with sea temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius, average air temperatures of 25.5 degrees Celsius and just 12 millimetres of rainfall across the two months. Nearby Nissi Beach, the survey found, ranks among the best beaches in Europe. Quotezone said it created its 2026 Shoulder Season Index to help travellers identify the best southern European destinations for sunny autumn holidays without extreme heat or high prices. The trend is gaining popularity across all age groups rather than just among older travellers, with British travel association ABTA describing the rise in shoulder-season travel as “Super September”, the company said. Extreme heat elsewhere in Europe is partly driving the shift, according to Quotezone’s research. More than half of travellers, 52 per cent, said they would actively avoid southern Europe in summer because of the heat, after western Europe experienced its hottest June-July period on record this year, with wildfires breaking out in several countries including France and Spain, just a year after the European Union’s worst-ever wildfire season. Nearly half of all travellers, 48 per cent, said they would consider moving their annual holiday to autumn instead of travelling during the summer peak. Cost and crowding were also factors, Quotezone found. Just over a quarter of travellers, 26 per cent, cited lower prices as influencing their decision to travel in autumn, while 42 per cent said they were willing to wait for a last-minute price drop before booking and 11 per cent said they always wait for an autumn deal. On crowding, 21 per cent cited less congestion as their main reason for preferring autumn travel, 16 per cent cited fewer children being present, and three per cent said it was easier to get time off work. Quotezone is one of the largest price comparison websites in the United Kingdom, helping more than four million people a year compare prices and save money on bills and essential services, including travel insurance.
