Georgiou, a father of a seven-year-old boy and an infant, worked as a labourer at DLGO Larnaca. In a post on social media, DLGO Larnaca president Angelos Hadjicharalambous said “the DLGO Larnaca family mourns the loss of one of our own.” He described Georgiou as a worthy and much-loved colleague, a young family man known for his character, work ethic and dedication, and said his loss had filled the organisation with deep sorrow. Hadjicharalambous said the Board’s thoughts were with Georgiou’s wife, his two children and his entire family, and bid him farewell. He added that the DLGO Board would meet to decide on measures in Georgiou’s memory, to be announced later that day. Georgiou died in Sunday’s head-on collision on the Kellia-Troulloi road, after his motorcycle, which he had borrowed from a friend, crossed into the oncoming lane while entering a bend. He was not wearing a protective helmet at the time. A post-mortem examination found that Georgiou died from a severe head injury, pathologist Nicolas Charalambous said.
