**Lifeguards Save Couple from Drowning off Limassol Coast**
A couple from Nepal was rescued from a potentially life-threatening situation off the coast of Limassol on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM in the Akti Olympion area, where a 25-year-old man found himself in distress while attempting to swim back to shore from a rocky outcrop.
According to the Limassol lifeguard unit, the man, who was identified as a weak swimmer with limited stamina, began to struggle in the water. In a moment of panic, he grabbed hold of his wife, who was nearby, inadvertently putting both of their lives at risk.
Lifeguards monitoring the beach had already noted the man's precarious situation and were prepared to act swiftly. They utilized a rescue board to reach the couple, while bystanders approximately 20 meters away also rushed to assist. The lifeguard unit reported that the timely intervention of both the lifeguards and the capable swimmers was crucial in preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.
“The lifeguards safely pulled the 25-year-old onto the rescue board,” the unit stated. Additionally, the nearby Lem 15 lifeguard station, which is equipped with a jet ski, was alerted to the situation to provide further assistance if necessary.
Once brought to shore, the man was examined by lifeguards and received first aid on the scene. Fortunately, he did not require further medical treatment and was released without the need for an ambulance.
In light of this incident, the Limassol lifeguard unit has issued a warning to beachgoers. They advised individuals not to attempt swimming in challenging or rocky areas unless they are confident in their swimming abilities. The unit emphasized the importance of recognizing one's limitations, especially in the presence of strong currents or winds.
Furthermore, lifeguards encouraged anyone who finds themselves in trouble while swimming to remain calm and call for assistance rather than clinging to another person, as this can exacerbate the situation and endanger both individuals involved.
