The project began with a ceremony on Thursday, 6 August 2026, and covers sections of the existing network that are ageing, have recorded a high number of failures and show high levels of water losses. The new drinking water distribution network will cover around 220 roads and serve about 40,000 residents across an area of approximately 2.6 square kilometres. The works include installing new water supply pipes made from modern materials, excavation and backfilling, as well as restoring roads and pavements after the works are completed. EOA Limassol president Giannis Tsouloftas said the project upgrades, modernises and strengthens the city’s water infrastructure. He added that the construction of the project would improve citizens’ daily lives and quality of life while supporting Limassol’s modernisation efforts. The project area extends from the Enaerios area along Makariou III Avenue to the Central Fire Station; from the Central Fire Station along the Garillis riverbed to Yildiz Street in the Four Lanterns area; from Four Lanterns along Yildiz, Navarinou, Irinis, 16 June and Gladstonos streets to Pentadromos; and from Pentadromos along Anexartisias Street towards the seafront avenue. EOA Limassol said the completed project is expected to reduce failures and water losses and, as a result, reduce interruptions to water supply for consumers. It added that the project will also reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve services and contribute to ensuring better drinking water quality. The project forms part of the organisation’s wider planning for water supply, sewerage, flood protection, renewable energy and recycled water production infrastructure. As part of this wider planning, works are also under way for the installation of 80,000 smart water meters worth €13 million, as well as the construction of four new water reservoirs with a total capacity of around 9,000 cubic metres and a budget of €3.8 million. Contract 10/2025 was signed on 2 June 2026 between EOA Limassol and contractor An. Christou Properties & Constructions Limited.
