**Limassol Municipality Unveils €5.6 Million Fleet Upgrade**
Limassol, Cyprus – The Limassol municipality has officially introduced its new cleaning fleet, marking a significant step in a €5.6 million initiative aimed at modernizing its vehicles and enhancing services for local residents. The unveiling took place on Wednesday at the wholesale market, with Mayor Yiannis Armeftis highlighting the municipality's commitment to phasing out outdated vehicles, minimizing maintenance costs, and improving the reliability of municipal services.
The fleet renewal program is set to span from July 2024 to July 2026 and encompasses 22 contracts that total approximately €5.6 million, excluding VAT. This initiative will see the acquisition of 70 new vehicles and pieces of machinery, with 35 units already delivered and the remaining expected to arrive by 2026 and 2027.
Mayor Armeftis emphasized that the focus of this upgrade is on enhancing cleaning services across the municipality. The new equipment will be utilized for cleaning roads, public spaces, and beaches, as well as for waste collection. Among the new additions are four self-propelled street sweepers, one of which was donated by XM, along with three electric pedestrian-operated sweepers, two vehicles equipped with high-pressure washing systems, and one self-propelled beach-cleaning machine.
In the coming months, the municipality anticipates the arrival of additional refuse trucks, including four 19-cubic-metre trucks, three 22-cubic-metre trucks, and one 12-cubic-metre truck, along with a water tanker. Once the fleet renewal contracts are fully executed in 2026 and 2027, the municipality plans to further enhance its capabilities with two additional self-propelled sweepers and three large 22-cubic-metre refuse trucks.
The fleet upgrade also extends to vehicles used by the municipality's technical services and municipal crews. So far, the municipality has received six single-cab pickup trucks with tipping beds, one single-cab vehicle with either a tipping or flat bed, three single-cab vehicles without tipping beds, three double-cab vehicles, one electric vehicle, seven passenger vehicles, and three commercial vans. Additional deliveries expected in 2026 and 2027 include a backhoe loader, ten double-cab vehicles, eight pickup trucks, four single-cab vehicles with tipping beds, and another electric vehicle.
In a related initiative, the municipality has also provided a fully equipped single-cab fire engine valued at €40,000 to the Krasochoria cluster of communities. This purchase was made possible through funds collected from public donations last July, aimed at supporting those affected by local wildfires, with the Limassol municipality covering the remaining expenses.
This comprehensive fleet upgrade reflects Limassol's ongoing efforts to improve municipal services, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient environment for its residents. As the municipality continues to modernize its operations, the new fleet is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life in the city.
