**Limassol Set to Launch Smart Parking System in Early July**
Limassol is on track to introduce a new smart parking system in early July, with installation efforts currently underway throughout the city center. This initiative aims to modernize parking management, enhance traffic flow, and facilitate easier access to available parking spaces in some of the busiest areas of the city.
The smart parking project was initially announced by the Limassol municipality in 2023 and awarded to Blue Sun Automation Ltd in June 2025. The contract for the project is valued at €5.17 million, excluding VAT, and it will encompass approximately 2,500 parking spaces across central Limassol.
As part of the system, sensors have already been installed in various on-street parking locations. These sensors will provide real-time information regarding space availability, which drivers can access through a dedicated mobile application. This feature is expected to help users locate parking more efficiently. Additionally, the app will facilitate electronic payments, streamlining the parking process and diminishing the reliance on physical tickets.
The project also includes upgrades to several organized car parks. Notably, the Enaerios parking facility will undergo modifications to its entry and exit routes, along with a redesign aimed at improving circulation and increasing capacity. Similar enhancements are planned for parking areas near the Limassol pier, where demand for spaces is particularly high.
While the smart parking system is anticipated to go live shortly, the pricing structure has yet to be finalized. Ongoing discussions within the municipality suggest a potential charge of around €1 per hour, with a daily maximum of €15. Authorities are also considering possible concessions for permanent residents. However, officials have emphasized that the primary goal is to discourage long-term use of public parking spaces, thereby improving availability for all users.
In addition to enhancing user experience, the new system is expected to bolster enforcement efforts. Real-time monitoring capabilities will enable traffic wardens to quickly identify parking violations and respond effectively, thereby improving compliance with parking regulations. The overarching aim is to increase turnover in high-demand areas, reduce the time drivers spend searching for parking, and alleviate congestion during peak hours.
This smart parking initiative is part of Limassol's broader strategy to incorporate more digital solutions that enhance mobility and accessibility throughout the city. Limassol is not alone in this endeavor; other municipalities in Cyprus are also moving towards similar systems. For instance, in Latsia Yeri, the installation of a smart parking system began in May 2026 as part of the Smart Cyprus program. This project includes app-based parking information, designated spaces for disabled drivers, and electric vehicle charging points.
Moreover, in Larnaca, a smart parking contract worth €600,000 was signed in June 2025. This system will feature digital management software, mobile payments, and adjustable pricing based on demand. These initiatives reflect a significant shift towards smarter urban transport management across Cyprus, with Limassol’s scheme being one of the largest currently in progress.
Local authorities acknowledge that the installation of these systems may lead to temporary disruptions. However, they assert that the long-term benefits will include improved accessibility and reduced search times for parking. As Limassol prepares for the rollout of its smart parking system, residents and visitors alike are hopeful that this innovation will contribute to a more efficient and user-friendly parking experience in the city.
