The exhibition, curated by Mikaella Socratous, runs until July 15 at Livewire’s space on Evangelistrias Street. According to the exhibition materials, the show is installed across the venue’s domestic interiors and unfolds across four rooms, each shifting in atmosphere as visitors move through the space. Socratous, born in 1997, is an artist, curator and scenographer whose practice explores image culture and the relationship between fantasy and perception, according to her biography in the press materials. She works across installation, painting, sculpture and scenography, and has previously shown solo and group exhibitions including Medieval Divas in Crete, Psychic Conman in Limassol, and Pleasure Hunt and The Room in Nicosia. She also works as a production designer and art director for campaigns, films and musicians, and holds degrees from the Glasgow School of Art, the Barcelona Academy of Art and LABASAD in Barcelona. She is the founder and director of Livewire. Livewire describes itself as an artist-run platform supporting contemporary artistic practices from Cyprus and beyond, working across exhibitions, installations, performances and workshops from a space in a former residential building. According to the exhibition text, Specular Drift takes its title from the language of digital rendering, exploring the point at which images become convincing and the moment that certainty begins to loosen. The exhibition responds to what its curatorial text describes as a period of accelerated image production, and turns those conditions into physical, spatial experience. The show’s visual identity was created by Iro Kraija Karavia, with documentation by Ioanna Economidou. The exhibition text was written by Socratous. The artists featured in Specular Drift are: 100100, Captain Stavros, Yorgos Agrotes, Stelios Ilchuk, Nunet, Ana Castillo, Mikaella Socratous, Kyriakos Kyriakides, Fabien Neisius, Orestis Telemachou, Anastasis Panagis Meletis, Angeriki Koutsodimitropoulou, Mariel Kouveli, Adonis Archontides, Lighterfluid, Iro Kraija Karavia with Richard Linder and Nyxtanz, Despina Petridou, Danae Patsalou, Anna Thomaidou and Ioanna Economidou. Livewire is located at Evangelistrias 2, Strovolos, Nicosia.
