Prosecution details presented during the hearing indicated Thompson turned toward the shooter after being struck by the first bullet on the sidewalk. The case has generated widespread international interest, triggering debate regarding the US healthcare system and drawing public focus to the defendant throughout preliminary legal proceedings.
