**Man Arrested in Ayia Napa Following Seizure of Nitrous Oxide Canisters**
Ayia Napa, Cyprus – A 23-year-old man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after police discovered a significant quantity of nitrous oxide canisters in his vehicle. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when members of the rapid response unit, known as MMAD, conducted a routine traffic stop on a road in Ayia Napa.
During the stop, officers performed a search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of 20 canisters of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas. In addition to the canisters, police also found eight balloons and an inhalation device, all of which were confiscated as evidence.
The young man was arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing a controlled substance with the intent to supply. Nitrous oxide is often used recreationally for its euphoric effects, but it is classified as a controlled substance in many jurisdictions, including Cyprus.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the man's identity or any potential charges he may face. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the use and distribution of nitrous oxide, particularly in nightlife areas such as Ayia Napa, which is known for its vibrant party scene.
Police are continuing their investigation into the matter, and further updates are expected as they assess the situation and gather more information.
