**Man City Boss Maresca Targets Next Rodri After Midfielder’s Exit**
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his intention to find a suitable replacement for midfielder Rodri, who recently transferred to Barcelona after a successful seven-year tenure at the club. Rodri's departure marks a significant change for City, as he was a pivotal player in their recent successes, including four Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, and two FA Cups.
In a press conference held ahead of City's Premier League opener against Bournemouth, Maresca acknowledged the challenge of replacing Rodri but emphasized the club's historical ability to fill key positions. "I’ll try to find a new Rodri – it is what it is," Maresca stated. He highlighted Rodri's journey, noting that before joining Manchester City, he had not achieved the accolades that he later earned, such as the Ballon d'Or and the Champions League title. "Now the target for us is to try to find the new Rodri," he added.
Rodri, who recently captained Spain to victory in the World Cup and was named player of the tournament, leaves behind a legacy that will be difficult to replicate. Maresca, however, remains optimistic, citing the club's successful recruitment history as a foundation for finding a worthy successor. "When David Silva was here, everyone was worried – Kevin (De Bruyne) arrived. When Sergio Aguero was here, everyone was worried – Erling (Haaland) arrived. When Fernandinho left, Rodri arrived. It’s just about this," he remarked, underscoring the club's ability to adapt and evolve.
The manager's comments come amidst a period of transition for Manchester City, with several notable changes occurring during the close season. Maresca indicated that further transfer activity is expected before the window closes, although he remains unfazed by speculation surrounding players like Omar Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez. "We need to adapt and we don’t want to keep players here that don’t want to stay," he explained. "The normal thing in transfer windows is that you have to wait because all the clubs try to keep players until the last week and then sell for more money. I’m not worried about that."
As Manchester City prepares for the new season, the focus will be on how they navigate this transition and whether they can successfully identify and integrate a new player to fill the void left by Rodri. The club's recent successes and strong recruitment strategy provide a solid foundation for Maresca's ambitions, as he seeks to maintain the team's competitive edge in both domestic and international competitions.
