**Marquez Snatches German MotoGP Pole with New Lap Record; Bezzecchi Withdraws After Crash**
Marc Marquez made headlines on Saturday by breaking the lap record at the Sachsenring, securing pole position for the German Grand Prix with a remarkable time of one minute 19.041 seconds. This achievement marks Marquez's third pole of the MotoGP season, showcasing his continued dominance at a circuit where he has historically excelled.
The qualifying session unfolded with early excitement as Raul Fernandez from Trackhouse Aprilia briefly held provisional pole. However, as the session progressed, Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Ducati, the previous record-holder, surged to the top of the timesheets in the closing moments. Just when it seemed Di Giannantonio might maintain his lead, Marquez delivered a stunning performance, clocking two rapid laps that secured his position at the front of the grid.
Marquez finished the session 0.061 seconds ahead of his younger brother, Alex Marquez, who achieved second place for Gresini Racing, resulting in a rare one-two finish for the Marquez family. "Getting on the front row was the target. Especially setting the lap record feels good," Marc Marquez commented after the session, reflecting on his successful outing.
Di Giannantonio ultimately had to settle for third place, while Fernandez, who had briefly held the top spot, dropped to fourth. Ai Ogura, the Assen race winner and Trackhouse teammate of Fernandez, rounded out the top five. Di Giannantonio expressed mixed feelings about the session, stating, "Getting on the front row was super important, but I’m disappointed the lap record was taken away. Jokes apart, I am really happy. I think I have done well. Sure, the Marquez brothers were better than me today. But it’s nice to have this kind of speed here."
In a more somber turn of events, Marco Bezzecchi faced a significant setback during the qualifying session. The Aprilia rider, still recovering from injuries sustained in a crash at Assen the previous week, crashed again on his second flying lap. After returning to the paddock on a scooter, Bezzecchi was taken to the circuit medical center for evaluation. Aprilia later confirmed that he suffered a "complete and displaced fracture of the left clavicle," ruling him out for the remainder of the weekend as he prepares to return to Italy for surgery.
In other qualifying results, Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo, utilizing the team's latest front-wing package, advanced from Qualifying One alongside Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia, ultimately qualifying sixth on the grid. Bagnaia, however, struggled to build on his earlier pace and ended up in 11th place.
As the MotoGP weekend progresses, all eyes will be on Marquez as he aims to convert his pole position into a race victory, while the absence of Bezzecchi will be felt by the Aprilia team. The German Grand Prix promises to be an exciting event, with the Marquez brothers leading the charge from the front row.
