Police have urged motorists to drive with particular caution, reduce their speed and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. The downpours come as preliminary figures from the Department of Meteorology show that average rainfall across the government-controlled areas reached 41% of the August norm between 1 August and 9 am on Monday. The average rainfall for the month is 2.9 millimetres, while 1.2 millimetres had been recorded by Monday morning. During the previous three days, Saittas recorded the highest rainfall at 13.9 millimetres, followed by Platania with 13.2 millimetres. The average across the government-controlled areas during the period was 1.1 millimetres. Saittas also recorded the highest total for the month so far, reaching 103% of its August norm.
