In a recent Facebook post, Ioannou shared video footage highlighting the family's plight, emphasizing the urgency of their situation. She stated that the grandmother and grandson have been living among stacked shipping containers since losing their home, and described their living conditions as squalid. The MP noted that the family possesses only a few belongings and that a dilapidated structure on the site has been repurposed into a makeshift bedroom.
Ioannou expressed frustration over the lack of action from government authorities, stating that they had been informed about the family's circumstances since the previous Thursday. She accused officials of failing to respond adequately despite being made aware of the situation. "Come, deputy minister, and let me take you down the dirt road leading to the containers," she urged, referring to the path as "the road of misery."
The MP highlighted that the grandmother and grandson have been waiting for state assistance since last year, calling on the deputy social welfare minister to visit the site personally to witness the conditions firsthand.
