**New Academic Appointments at University of Nicosia’s Faculty of Law**
The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is enhancing its academic capacity with the appointment of new faculty members at its School of Law, located in both Athens and Nicosia. This initiative is part of the School's ongoing development and the University’s commitment to academic and research excellence.
The newly appointed academics bring a wealth of teaching and research experience from various universities and research institutions across Greece and internationally. Their expertise spans a broad spectrum of contemporary legal scholarship, including constitutional law, administrative law, European law, international commercial law, digital law, artificial intelligence, and human rights.
Professor Achilles C. Emilianides, Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNIC and Chair of the Faculty of Law Council at UNIC Athens, expressed enthusiasm about the new appointments. He stated, “Strengthening the Law School with academics who possess significant international experience and a strong research profile forms part of our ongoing commitment to the quality of teaching and research.” He emphasized that these appointments will enhance the School’s expertise in key areas of legal scholarship and contribute to creating a modern, internationally connected academic environment.
**New Faculty Members at UNIC Athens**
Starting in September 2026, Professor Panagiotis Delimatsis will join the Faculty of Law at UNIC Athens. He is currently a Professor of European and International Commercial Law at Tilburg University in the Netherlands and serves as the Director of the Tilburg Legal and Economic Centre (TILEC). His internationally recognized work focuses on the legal regulation of services and international trade, and he will take on the role of Director of Research at UNIC Athens, aiming to advance the School's research activities and international collaborations.
Also joining UNIC Athens is Anastasios Pavlopoulos, who holds a PhD in Public Law from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a barrister at the Supreme Court and specializes in constitutional and administrative law, human rights, environmental and energy law, and media law. His research interests include comparative constitutional law and governmental accountability in modern democracies.
Olga Giakouminaki has been appointed to the Law School at UNIC Athens, where she will focus on European administrative law and public procurement law. She earned her PhD from the University of Paris 2 – Assas and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Copenhagen. Her work has included experience at the Court of Justice of the European Union and teaching roles at prestigious institutions such as the Universities of Oxford and Lund.
**New Faculty Members at UNIC Nicosia**
From September 2026, Eleftheria Papadaki will join the Faculty of Law at UNIC Nicosia. She has completed her postgraduate and doctoral studies at Harvard Law School, where she also taught for several years. Her academic work encompasses private international law, international commercial law, international arbitration, and the implications of artificial intelligence on the rule of law and democracy.
Nicholas Mouttotos, who holds a PhD from Maastricht University and an LLM in European Law, will also join the School in October 2026. His research focuses on private international law, contract law, and consumer protection. He has previously conducted research at international academic institutions, including the Max Planck Institutes and UNIDROIT, and will be participating in a Horizon Europe research programme.
Ioannis E. Kastanas, who has a PhD in Public Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, will also be joining the faculty. He has completed postgraduate studies in Public Law at the University of Paris II Panthéon-Assas and in Canon Law at his alma mater. Kastanas has previously served as a Lecturer in Public Law at Neapolis University and has conducted postdoctoral research at the Faculty of Law of the University of Nicosia.
Lastly, Stella Mala Heracleous has been appointed as a Lecturer, specializing in Digital Law and Human Rights. Her research addresses the legal challenges posed by new technologies, focusing on freedom of expression, social media law, cybercrime, and the regulation of digital environments through artificial intelligence. In 2024, she was recognized with the Young Researcher Award in the field of Law.
These appointments reflect UNIC's strategic plan to enhance its academic offerings and maintain a robust faculty that can support its mission of providing high-quality legal education and research.
