**New Drones and Military Hardware to Feature in October 1 Parade in Nicosia**
Nicosia, Cyprus – The upcoming military parade on October 1 is set to showcase an array of new military hardware, including Cypriot-developed drones, heavy armor, and advanced air defense systems. The event, which marks Cyprus’ Independence Day, will commence at 11 AM on Iosif Hadjiosif Avenue, bringing together various units from the National Guard, police, fire service, civil defense, and other state services.
One of the most anticipated highlights of this year’s parade is the introduction of a dedicated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) unit from the National Guard. This marks the first time such a unit will be publicly displayed, emphasizing the National Guard's commitment to enhancing its capabilities in unmanned systems. Among the drones to be showcased are several first-person-view (FPV) systems designed for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, along with a mobile FPV production unit. This mobile unit is particularly noteworthy as it enables the production and technical support of drones in the field, thereby increasing the National Guard's operational autonomy.
In addition to the new UAVs, a larger unmanned aircraft that has been operational with the National Guard since July is also expected to make an appearance. These systems have been developed by Cypriot companies with support from the National Guard, reflecting a broader initiative to establish a sustainable domestic capability in unmanned aerial technology.
The parade will also highlight Cyprus’ enhanced air defense capabilities, with the Israeli-made Barak MX system being presented for the first time. Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas previously noted the significance of this acquisition in strengthening the island's air defense infrastructure.
Heavy armor will play a prominent role in the parade, with T-80 and AMX-30B2 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, and other armored units expected to be showcased. The naval command will also be represented, featuring Exocet coastal defense missile systems.
Aerial displays will add to the spectacle, with National Guard H145M and AgustaWestland 139 helicopters participating in a flypast. The H145Ms are among the newest additions to the National Guard's fleet, acquired to replace older Russian-built Mi-35 attack helicopters. Additionally, two Greek Air Force F-16 Vipers and a British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon are anticipated to join the flyover, along with reports of an Egyptian aircraft participating in the event.
The parade will also see the involvement of foreign military personnel, with contingents from Egypt, France, Britain, and the United States expected to participate on the ground. Notably, U.S. Marines and sailors from the USS Mount Whitney will also join in the celebrations.
As the event approaches, anticipation is building among the public and military personnel alike, with the parade promising to be a significant display of national pride and military capability.
