**New Evidence Links Attempted Robbery to Earlier Case**
Larnaca, Cyprus – New developments have come to light regarding the attempted robbery of a jewellery shop in Larnaca on July 6, as authorities uncover connections to a prior attempted bank robbery in Kiti that occurred on June 19. The Larnaca police have arrested two suspects, aged 41 and 33, in relation to the jewellery shop incident, and are now investigating both cases in tandem.
George Charalambous, head of the Larnaca police criminal investigation department, announced on Friday evening that the investigation has expanded due to emerging testimony that links the two suspects to the earlier bank robbery attempt. The police are currently examining various charges against the suspects, including conspiracy to commit a crime, attempted robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and carrying a firearm to incite terror.
The attempted robbery at the jewellery shop took place in the morning hours, around 9 AM, when a man entered the store clad in a black motorcycle helmet, a long-sleeved black shirt, and a vest resembling those worn by food delivery personnel. According to reports, the suspect threatened the 73-year-old shop owner with a firearm. During a struggle that ensued, the owner sustained a head injury requiring stitches but managed to repel the suspect, who fled the scene in a vehicle that was reportedly waiting outside.
In the earlier incident on June 19, two masked individuals approached a bank in Kiti, armed with a sports bag. However, their attempt to enter the bank was thwarted when the security doors failed to open, prompting them to abandon the robbery and flee the scene in a saloon car parked nearby.
The police are now piecing together evidence from both incidents to establish a clearer picture of the suspects' activities and potential motivations. The investigation continues as authorities seek to ensure the safety of local businesses and residents in the wake of these alarming events.
As the police delve deeper into the case, they are appealing to the public for any additional information that may assist in their inquiries. The community remains on alert as law enforcement works to address these serious crimes.
