**New Summer School Turns Nicosia into a Stage for Young Explorers**
The Nicosia Municipal Theatre is set to launch its inaugural Summer Theatre School, titled "The City as a Stage – Theatre Routes in Nicosia," offering children aged 6 to 12 a unique opportunity to explore the world of theatre through the vibrant backdrop of the city itself. Scheduled to run from July 6 to 10 and July 13 to 17, the program aims to transform Nicosia into a dynamic stage where various cultural and historical sites serve as inspiration for storytelling and theatrical adventures.
The summer school will operate daily from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, providing an engaging blend of theatre education and cultural exploration. Participants will have the chance to creatively engage with Nicosia's rich history and urban landscape, utilizing the city’s museums, gardens, historic landmarks, and public squares as starting points for their theatrical journey.
Central to the program is the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, which will serve as the hub for the activities. Children will gain insights into the workings of a modern theatre, including the opportunity to meet professionals who play key roles in stage productions. This exposure aims to enhance their understanding of theatre and its various components.
Workshops will focus on essential theatrical skills, including expression, improvisation, movement, and voice. Through these sessions, children will learn how to develop and transform their ideas into performances. The workshops will be conducted in Greek by a team of experienced professionals from diverse fields such as theatre, dance, music, education, and history. The program has been designed and coordinated by Natalia Panayiotou, a creative force in the theatre community.
The faculty includes a talented group of instructors, such as Nasia Kelepeshi, Elena Antoniou, Konstantina Xenofontos, Loukia Pieridou, Iliana Koulafeti (of People of Cyprus), Annie Sofocleous, and the OPU Collective. Together, they will lead insightful and creative sessions aimed at nurturing the participants' theatrical skills.
In addition to the workshops, the program includes daily excursions to notable cultural sites in Nicosia. Participants will visit locations such as the Cyprus Museum, Paphos Gate, Kasteliotissa Hall, and the Nicosia Municipal Gardens. These outings will allow children to engage with their surroundings and draw inspiration from the city's rich heritage.
Through games, exploration, and creative challenges, the young explorers will have the opportunity to observe their environment and translate those observations into theatrical scenes. This hands-on approach is designed to foster a deeper connection between the participants and the public spaces that make up their city.
The cost of the program is set at €60 per week, making it an accessible option for families looking to enrich their children's summer experience with cultural and artistic education. Registrations are available through More.com.
