Nicosia, Cyprus – On Wednesday, US Ambassador John Breslow formally presented his credentials to President Nikos Christodoulides, marking the official resumption of his duties in the Republic of Cyprus. This event signifies the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the United States and Cyprus.

During a brief statement made while en route to a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, President Christodoulides expressed optimism regarding the future of US-Cyprus relations. He noted that a more comprehensive meeting with Ambassador Breslow is scheduled for the following week. "As we mentioned with the new American ambassador, whom I will see next week in a regular meeting – today it was within the framework of the presentation of his credentials – that the ‘sky is the limit’ when we talk about US-Republic relations,” Christodoulides stated.

Ambassador Breslow was nominated by former President Donald Trump to serve as the US ambassador to Cyprus in October 2025. He arrived in Cyprus over the weekend and has begun his role at the US embassy in Nicosia. Breslow brings a diverse background to his position, with experience in business, politics, public service, and philanthropy.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Prior to his ambassadorship, Breslow served two terms as the state auditor of public accounts in Nebraska and made an unsuccessful bid for the governorship of the state. His involvement in public service also includes leadership roles such as chairman of the Madonna Foundation and membership on the board of directors of the YMCA of Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as EMT Corp.

The meeting between President Christodoulides and Ambassador Breslow is anticipated to lay the groundwork for future collaboration and dialogue on various issues pertinent to both nations. As the US continues to play a significant role in regional affairs, the appointment of Breslow is viewed as a crucial step in enhancing diplomatic relations with Cyprus.

As the two leaders prepare for their upcoming discussions, the focus will likely be on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key areas of mutual interest.
