According to Michalis Nicolaou, Assistant Police Director of Operations for Paphos and Press Spokesperson for Paphos Police Divisional Headquarters, the file was returned to investigators with instructions to carry out specific actions in order to complete the examinations. Nicolaou said police had submitted the file to the Law Office on Friday, as most of the investigation had been completed, and had requested guidance on the next steps in the case. Laboratory test results remain pending, Nicolaou said, while the father has submitted a request through his lawyer for his immediate release from custody. He was remanded for eight days by Paphos District Court shortly after his arrest, appearing without a lawyer, relatives having said the family’s psychological state and lack of time had prevented arranging representation. The tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon, when the boy, who was staying with his family at a hotel in the Paphos district, fell from the fourth floor of the building. Police are investigating the father for offences relating to causing death through a reckless, imprudent or dangerous act, neglect of duty as head of the family, and neglect of responsibility as a person with care of a minor. An autopsy, carried out by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou, found the cause of the child’s death was severe head trauma and multiple injuries to the body and vital organs, caused by the fall from height. Evripides Loizides, president of the Paphos Hotels Association, said that based on the evidence available so far, no liability on the part of the hotel has emerged in relation to the tragedy.
