**Oil Refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl Region Engulfed in Flames Following Ukrainian Drone Attack**
A significant fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Yaroslavl region of Russia following a drone attack attributed to Ukraine. Regional Governor Mikhail Evrayev reported on Thursday that emergency services are currently engaged in efforts to extinguish the blaze. The incident marks one of the most substantial drone assaults on the area to date.
According to Evrayev, the fire was ignited when storage tanks at the refinery were struck by debris from falling drones. Unverified images circulating on social media depict thick black smoke rising from the facility, highlighting the severity of the situation. The governor described the attack as the largest by enemy drones against Yaroslavl, which is located approximately 250 kilometers (160 miles) northeast of Moscow.
In his statement on Telegram, Evrayev noted that the region's air defense and electronic warfare units successfully intercepted all 93 drones involved in the attack. Despite the scale of the incident, he confirmed that four individuals sustained shrapnel wounds; however, there were no fatalities reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also commented on the situation, stating via Telegram that the Ukrainian military had successfully targeted two Russian oil refineries: the Bashneft-Novoil refinery in Bashkortostan and the Slavneft-Yanos refinery in Yaroslavl. As of now, there has been no immediate response from Russian officials regarding the attack in Bashkortostan.
In recent months, Ukraine has intensified its operations against Russian oil refineries, aiming to disrupt fuel supplies. While Russian authorities have managed to stabilize fuel shortages in many regions, they acknowledge that issues persist in certain areas.
The Yaroslavl refinery, which has previously been a target of Ukrainian attacks, has a processing capacity of 15 million metric tons per year, equating to approximately 300,000 barrels per day. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to impact the energy sector significantly, with both sides adapting their strategies in response to the evolving situation.
