**One Arrest and 291 Traffic Violations in Nationwide Police Operations**
In a series of overnight operations aimed at enhancing public safety and reducing crime, police in Cyprus made one arrest and issued a significant number of traffic violations. The operations, which took place across the country, were part of an ongoing effort to maintain order and deter criminal activities.
According to police reports released on Wednesday, the operations involved thorough checks of both drivers and passengers. A total of 491 drivers and 212 passengers were stopped and inspected. Additionally, officers conducted inspections at 67 different premises, resulting in 18 charges being filed for various offenses.
Traffic enforcement was a major focus during these operations, with officers issuing a total of 291 charges for a variety of traffic violations. Speeding was the most common infraction, accounting for 105 of the total violations. In addition to speeding, police are currently investigating 13 further traffic-related cases.
As part of the traffic enforcement efforts, police conducted 197 breathalyser tests, revealing that 10 drivers were found to be over the legal alcohol limit. Furthermore, two motorists tested positive in preliminary roadside drug tests, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding impaired driving.
In addition to the arrests and charges, the operations also resulted in the seizure of 11 vehicles. These measures reflect the police's commitment to ensuring road safety and addressing issues related to drug and alcohol use among drivers.
