**Only 15% Turn Out for Aglandjia Election**
Nicosia, Cyprus – Voter turnout for the deputy mayoral election in Aglandjia, a suburb of Nicosia, was notably low as only 15.02% of registered voters participated by noon on Sunday. According to the returning officer, this translates to approximately 2,281 votes cast out of a total of 15,182 registered voters.
The election was necessitated by the vacancy left when former deputy mayor Andreas Constantinou was elected to the House of Representatives. Constantinou represented the Democratic Rally party (DISY) during his tenure.
Two independent candidates are vying for the deputy mayor position: Prokopis Prokopiou and Andri Hadjiandreou. The election is being held across 26 polling stations located within six schools in the area.
Polls opened at 12 noon and are scheduled to close at 6 PM, with the results expected to be announced around 8:30 PM on the same day.
As the day progresses, the turnout figures may change, but the initial participation rate indicates a potentially low engagement from the electorate in this local election.
