**Our View: AI to be Tamed or Blamed in Our Schools**
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the educational framework in Cyprus is set to commence in September, as announced by the Ministry of Education. The initiative aims to promote the responsible use of AI technology among students, a move that has sparked discussions on its potential impact on learning outcomes and teaching practices.
Education Minister Athena Michaelidou recently shared insights on this initiative during an interview with Politis Radio. She emphasized that the ministry’s focus will be on fostering critical thinking, creativity, and responsible technology use, rather than allowing AI to replace traditional learning methods. “We neither want to reduce it [AI] nor replace it… We cannot do that anyway. What we are doing is ensuring that it is used properly and that children learn through this process,” she stated.
