Andreas Mouzouris, speaking on Omega’s “Enimerosi Tora” programme, said he met the boys outside the complex and spoke to them in Bulgarian. He said he asked whether they were all right and they told him they were. Mouzouris also confirmed reports that he did not want children living on the premises, saying he had been concerned about the heavy traffic in the area and the risk of an accident. He claimed there had been a clear and explicit agreement with the father to that effect, which had not been honoured in recent weeks. According to Mouzouris, the two boys were left alone in the apartment every day. He said they roamed the communal areas of the complex unsupervised, came down to the courtyard and reached as far as the road. Despite his reservations about having children on the premises, Mouzouris said children are his soft spot and that he had tried to look after the boys in his own way, buying them juice, snacks and drawing books to keep them occupied. He described the two boys, who were found dead on Sunday, as lively.
