**Pafos FC to Host Hearts, Travel to Atalanta in Conference League**
Pafos FC is set to embark on an exciting journey in this season's UEFA Conference League, following the draw made on Friday afternoon. The Cypriot club will face a challenging group that includes Scottish side Heart of Midlothian, Italian club Atalanta, Danish team Midtjylland, and Latvian champions Riga FC.
The league phase will see Pafos FC play a total of six matches, with three fixtures scheduled to be held at their home ground, the Alphamega Stadium in Limassol, and three away games. The matches are expected to draw significant attention, as Pafos FC aims to make a mark in European competition.
Pafos FC's home matches will feature notable opponents, including Heart of Midlothian, who recently finished as runners-up in the Scottish Premiership. Last season, Hearts were in contention for the title until the final day, where they were overtaken by Celtic after a 3-1 defeat. The Scottish club has seen some changes since then, including the departure of manager Derek McInnes and top goalscorer Lawrence Shankland, both of whom could not assist their new club in qualifying for European competition.
In addition to hosting Hearts, Pafos FC will travel to Italy to face Atalanta, a club with a rich European history. Atalanta finished seventh in Serie A last season and boasts a strong pedigree, having won the Europa League in 2024. The Italian side is now under the management of Maurizio Sarri, who has also experienced European success, winning the same trophy with Chelsea in 2019.
Pafos FC will also face Midtjylland, who secured second place in last season's Danish Superliga, and Riga FC, which shares a similar founding year with Pafos FC, having been established in 2014. The group will be rounded out by a trip to the Netherlands to play FC Twente, who finished fourth in the Eredivisie last season. Twente's roster includes notable players such as Wout Weghorst and Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink, the latter being the son of former Celtic player Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
Another exciting match will see Pafos FC travel to Sweden to take on Mjallby, the defending Allsvenskan champions. Mjallby achieved a remarkable feat last season, winning the league for the first time in what has been described as one of the most impressive underdog stories in modern football. This season marks their inaugural participation in European competitions, and they will be led by Ali Youssef, who is on loan from Apollon Limassol.
As Pafos FC prepares for this challenging group stage, fans and players alike are hopeful for a successful campaign that could elevate the club's profile in European football. The matches promise to be thrilling encounters as Pafos FC aims to compete against some of the top teams from across Europe.
