**Pancyprian Exam Results Expected by July 24**
The Pancyprian examinations, a crucial assessment for students in Cyprus seeking university placements, concluded on Friday, with results anticipated to be released by July 24. Socrates Mylonas, head of the examinations service, confirmed the timeline during a statement made on the same day.
The examination period wrapped up with the administration of the common core mathematics paper, which saw participation from over 2,000 candidates. Mylonas reported that the exams were conducted smoothly, with no significant issues arising throughout the testing period. “In general, our exams went smoothly. We haven’t had anything shocking or any issues up until now,” he stated.
While there was one reported incident of suspected cheating, Mylonas clarified that the allegation was not substantiated, and the student's paper would still be marked. He emphasized the importance of vigilance during the exams, noting that supervisors are mandated to report any suspicions of misconduct for further investigation.
Concerns regarding the difficulty of certain examination papers, particularly in mathematics, were raised by some students. However, Mylonas indicated that these concerns did not translate into widespread complaints. He reiterated that the primary objective of the Pancyprian examinations is to fairly rank students for admission to public universities, rather than merely awarding high scores. “We want distinction, and the goal is not for candidates to get the maximum score, but for them to be able to be ranked in a reliable way, so that the best of them can claim places at universities,” he explained.
Mylonas also defended the existing structure of the examination system, which separates school graduation exams from the Pancyprian exams. He articulated that each type of exam serves distinct purposes: the school exams assess students' overall school performance, while the Pancyprian exams are specifically designed to determine university admissions.
Following the release of the Pancyprian exam results, successful candidates will then have the opportunity to apply for university placements in Greece, with these results expected to follow a few days later. Mylonas expressed cautious optimism about the July 24 deadline for results, stating, “With many reservations, we hope by July 24.”
A final review of this year’s examination papers will be conducted after collecting feedback from all candidates. Mylonas noted, “The proof is always at the time of the exam, how the candidates react,” highlighting the importance of student feedback in assessing the effectiveness of the examination process.
As students await their results, the Pancyprian examinations remain a pivotal moment in their academic journeys, determining their future educational paths both in Cyprus and abroad.
